Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force across business functions, with Human Resource Management (HRM) witnessing significant changes in recent years. The integration of AI into HR practices is redefining traditional approaches to talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, and workforce planning. In the Indian context, characterized by a large and diverse workforce, rapid digitalization, and increasing competition, AI presents both substantial opportunities and complex challenges for HRM. This article examines the role of AI in HRM by exploring emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges within Indian organizations. It highlights how AI-driven tools such as automated recruitment systems, predictive HR analytics, personalized learning platforms, and employee engagement solutions are enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and strategic decision-making in HR functions. At the same time, the study discusses critical challenges associated with AI adoption, including technological infrastructure limitations, skill gaps among HR professionals, data privacy concerns, ethical issues, and resistance to change. The article also reviews the government and policy environment in India, emphasizing initiatives that support digital transformation, skill development, and responsible AI usage. Based on the analysis, the article proposes strategic recommendations to ensure effective and ethical integration of AI into HRM. The study concludes that while AI has the potential to revolutionize HRM in India, its success depends on a balanced human–AI approach, strong governance frameworks, and continuous capacity building. When implemented thoughtfully, AI can enhance HRM’s strategic role and contribute to sustainable organizational growth and improved employee experience.
