Abstract

Dalbergia sissoo DC., commonly known as Sheesham or North Indian Rosewood, is a fast-growing deciduous tree with a rich history in traditional medicine. This report provides a comprehensive overview of its botanical characteristics, extensive ethnobotanical uses, and its significant phytochemical profile, which includes a diverse array of compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and phenolics. Scientific investigations have validated numerous pharmacological activities, including potent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiabetic, anticancer, osteogenic, and neuroprotective effects, often elucidated through specific molecular mechanisms.
