Abstract

The equity derivatives market in India has witnessed rapid expansion and increasing complexity, necessitating a robust and efficient legal framework to govern its functioning. This study examines the various factors influencing the efficiency of regulatory mechanisms that oversee the equity derivatives segment in India. It explores the current legal framework, identifies key challenges such as regulatory complexity, enforcement delays, technological limitations, and gaps in investor protection. By drawing comparative insights from established international markets, the study highlights best practices that could be adapted to the Indian context. Recommendations are provided to enhance regulatory efficiency through simplification of laws, advanced surveillance technologies, stakeholder engagement, and stronger enforcement protocols. The study underscores the critical role of an agile and transparent legal system in sustaining market integrity, promoting investor confidence, and fostering the growth of India’s equity derivatives market.
