Abstract

In India's corporate sector, socially responsible actions have recently increased. The purpose of this study is to look into India's banking industry for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives being carried out by the key companies, as well as to undertake an effect analysis of such operations in terms of image building and performance improvement. It is based on publicly available CSR data from major Indian banks during the last few years. The findings show that a) the number of CSR activities in Indian banks is increasing, b) there is a favourable relationship between business success and bank CSR activities, and c) CSR practises have improved the banks' goodwill and image. This implies that contributions to society provide benefits to the corporate sector in terms of increased value. This could be a useful paradigm for other service industries.
