Abstract

Longinus sometimes referred as a Pseudo-Longinus because his real name is unknown. He was a Greek teacher of rhetoric or a literary critic. He is known only for his treatise 'On the sublime' which is very valuable work of literary criticism. His 'treatise on the sublime' is a work which focuses on the effect of good writing. Longinus as a proffered rhetorician had studied grammar, composition, rules of art, proper use of words, meter, figures of speech etc. Transport and ecstasy is only possible through the sublime literature.
